Burnt Paper Mural

Condition & Mission

This paper mural was badly singed in a fire. It was affixed to acidic particle board with several layers of an unknown adhesive. It had cockled in the heat and was worn & torn from poor storage and handling.

This is one of the largest and most degraded pieces I’ve worked on. Burnt edges were nearly falling apart at the slightest touch. The owner requested that we “do what we could” in hopes that it could be displayed after treatment. I convinced him to maintain some of the original damage, as an ode to the piece’s history.
