Other Projects for Art Preservation Services
My time at Art Preservation Services allowed me to practice conservation techniques, hand skills, art handling, and problem solving daily. We regularly rescued art from sites that had experienced fires, floods, and other disasters. I love the quiet work of paper, but I’m happy to put my steel-toe boots on, too!
There were, of course, LOTS of adhesive removal, plenty of tears to repair, countless tests of intended treatments, and many documents to wash.
I also had the privilege of assisting with paintings and sculptures, including a great deal of cleaning with a dash of repair and inpainting.
Discolored drawings with water-soluble ink.
Research to find if the red was part of the art (it was!).
Adhesive for manual removal, due to water-soluble inks.
Ready for archival backing and framing.
Recreating the finish on a plaster piece.
Surface clean and tone after and before.
Framed and ready to go home.
Several projects brought in on the same day.
Inpainting a newly mounted reproduction piece.
